Extensive Media Enterprises Good Tuesday morning. Florida’s business leaders are gathering in Orlando today with a familiar ambition and a full agenda: making the state one of the world’s 10 largest economies by 2030. The Florida Chamber Foundation’s Future of Florida Forum opens at 10 a.m. at the JW Marriott Orlando Bonnet Creek, kicking off two days of discussions about the workforce, infrastructure and policies needed to get there. U.S. Sen. Rick Scott is among the opening-day speakers, with a presentation focused on affordability and the economic lessons he wants Washington to take from Florida. Chamber President and CEO Mark Wilson will outline the organization’s approach to economic growth, while Foundation Chair Karen Moore delivers the welcome.
Florida’s business leaders set their sights on a top-10 global economy at the Future of Florida Forum. Education and workforce development anchor a sizable stretch of Tuesday’s program. Education Commissioner Henry Mack will discuss the state’s talent pipeline, while University of Central Florida President Alex Cartwright and Valencia College President Kathleen Plinske join a discussion about preparing students for future jobs. Another session examines what slower population growth could mean for employers. The infrastructure lineup includes a discussion of data centers, featuring Tampa Electric President and CEO Archie Collins, with grid capacity, resource use and local impacts on the agenda. Later sessions turn to permitting, medical malpractice, and third-party litigation funding before discussing Amendment 3’s potential effects on Florida’s property tax system. The Rotunda, his state politics podcast, went quiet after Episode 201 in 2022. It returned Monday morning with a new episode featuring former state Sen. Jeff Brandes, who left the Legislature in 2022 and now runs the Florida Policy Project. Brandes walks through Hope Florida, the public-records fight around it, and the fine print of Amendment 3, the property-tax measure on next week's ballot.
Trimmel Gomes brings The Rotunda back into rotation, with Jeff Brandes tackling Hope Florida and Amendment 3. The conversation was recorded Friday and runs just under 17 minutes. Gomes also folds in clips of Rep. Alex Andrade, Attorney General James Uthmeier, Gov. Ron DeSantis, and U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody from news coverage of the Hope Florida story, along with reporting from CBS News Miami. Listen on rotundapodcast.com, subscribe on Apple Podcasts, or go straight to the audio file. Welcome back, Trimmel. |
